wobbling along the tracks possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol and carrying a knife. they responded shortly thereafter. two bart officers shot and killed this man or suspect taken to sf general and died shortly thereafter. one officer we found out also sustained injuries during the shooting. >> the officer suffering from cuts and bruises on his arm. minor cuts and bruises on his arm. the suspect is a white male. two officers involved one is white and one is asian. >> reporter: now police found knives and glass at the scene, but they're not saying why the suspect was shot or how the bart officer actually sustained those minor injuries. and they also have not said whether the suspect was shot by one officer or by both officers. another question that still remains is the number of shots fired. we're getting reports from some witnesses of three gunshots and then a different number of shots from others.

san francisco police have taken this on an as investigation, a homicide investigation, and bart is also investigating on its end to find out if the policies and procedures that were supposed to have been followed were in fact followed. and after speaking to johnson a few minutes ago he confirmed trains will in fact be running as usual with the usual stops at the civic center bart station. back to you. >> all right. i was just going to ask you that. very good. thank you very much. kristy siefkan live in san francisco this morning. and a bloody night in the richmond area. four people have been killed, several others injured in multiple shootings overnight. the first happened about 8:30 on ohio avenue. a man now in critical condition because of that. and then about 10:40 on ruby street two people were shot and killed. this happened in an unincorporated area of contra costa county. about half hour later one person was killed on the 3200 block on center avenue. we now have an unconfirmed report that a second person was shot at that location as well. then in a fourth incident all

separate one person was killed another is in critical condition this morning. this happened at the first street and mcdonald avenue area. police are investigating whether all the shootings are connected. we have a crew on the way. should have a live report coming up in short order. federal investigators are looking into an emergency landing on a peninsula freeway where a plane actually struck a car. zizania 210 touched down on northbound 280 in the woodside area near farm hill boulevard. happened around 7:15 last night. f.a.a. says the plane's left mainlanding gear actually broke the back window of a car driving on the freeway while trying to land that plane. f.a.a. says the pilot issued a may day call before the landing. fortunately no reports of injuries to any of the drivers or the pilot. the national transportation safety board is investigating. crews have recovered the sea plane that crashed in the richardson bay on friday night.

the pilot's attempt and failure to takeoff captured here on video after gaining just a couple feet of altitude nosed into the choppy bay waters right there. the pilot and passenger on board rescued by boaters. they are doing fine now. but it took until yesterday to finally find the wreckage under water. fire investigators are examining evidence from a fire that burned dozens of cars in south san francisco to see if fireworks were the cause there. the fire happened yesterday at an overflow lot for hertz rental cars. this is mitchell avenue by the airport. some time before 3:00 witnesses spotted cars in flames. firefighters found about ten cars on fire and a lot of strong winds. >> the wind blowing in the northeast direction that it is was catching the grass underneath the vehicle because it's an unpaved parking lot and therefore catches more vehicles and more vehicles. so we were chasing basically a grass fire under vehicles that were then catching on fire. >> in all 45 cars burned and

the fire continued to smolder for hours. investigators found some fireworks debris but not where the fire started. witnesses say they heard fireworks but they may have just been a popping sounds from all the burning cars. quite a mess right there. now if you made it through yesterday's heat, today should be a piece of cake. spare the air day limits have all been lifted today. temperatures in the 80s and 90s sent a whole lot of people to the parks and picnic grounds yesterday over the holiday weekend. any place they could try to stay cool and enjoy a holiday weekend with good food and family. >> this is what's special to come out here with the family. because all the kids we sent them to the swimming pool already to the raging waters. when they come back all the food will be nice and ready. >> and while we were all relaxing around the bay area look what folks were doing in the sierra. they got enough snow this year they're still skiing believe it or not at squaw valley. i believe alpine was open too.

a warm day there as well with highs in the 80s around lake tahoe. so you could actually dip into the lake and if you wanted to go ski you could do that as well. i believe the resorts are open again today. how are we looking on the 4th of july weather-wise? i think it's going to be hot one more time. let's check in with lawrence. yeah. good morning. i think it is going to be hot again. we may cool the temperatures. may not get to 100 degrees but 99 that's still hot. that's where we're headed again in some spots inland. right now most of the bay area nice and clear. we may see patchy fog developing toward the coastline a little later on today. right now 52 in pacifica. still looking at 70 in concord and 64 in livermore. by the afternoon again that ridge of high pressure sitting overhead and here comes the heat. 97 degrees in livermore today. 94 in concord. about 91 in san jose out toward the coastline you're looking at temperatures with the sea breeze into the 60s. next couple days could get interesting. tomorrow heats up again.

the bay area, this fourth of july weekend. back now at 5:09. more drunken driving arrests in

the bay area over the weekend from friday night until saturday morning highway patrol officers arrested 67 people suspected of driving under the influence. that's ten more arrests than the same period last independence day weekend. dui arrests are also up statewide 442 drivers arrested this year compared to just 396 last year. no word yet if alcohol was a factor in a car crash that kill add fremont man in richmond yesterday morning. coast guard and local law enforcement agencies increasing presence on bay area water ways for the 4th of july holiday. nationwide nearly 500 people drown add year ago and 90 of those victims not wearing life vests. also alcohol was a factor in 126 fatal boating accidents during the holiday. cal train is expected to have cameras on the trains by the end of the year. the cameras will be at the front and back of each train. they will report accidents and suicides and any suspicious activity along the tracks. the chronicle reports the cal

train board will probably award a contract for those cameras some time this week. half a million dollar state grant will help to pay for them. state assembly will be the next to vote on a bill to keep police from snooping into cell phones of people after they're arrested. in january the state supreme court ruled that people who are arrested lose their right of privacy related to cell phones or anything they're carrying. chronicle reports state senator mark lin no's bill to require search warrants has cleared the senate with a bipartisan support. time now is 5:11. a developing story. a fishing boat capsizes in the gulf of california. the search for several missing people this morning. and rumors swirling about google's next big buy. how it could soon be teaming up with an online video giant coming up. and if you're traveling around today, beautiful conditions in the bay area. looking at 79 degrees at sfo. so we are clear for takeoff. no problems weather-wise there

welcome back. it is 5:15 now. let's get you caught up with some of the top stories on if 4th of july. a deadly bart police shooting all under investigation in san francisco at this hour. a man said to have a knife was shot and killed by bart officers at the civic center station last night. one officer suffering minor injuries. and at least four people killed in multiple shootings in richmond last night. several other people are crateically wounded. shootings happened in four different locations over several hours on sunday. and today prosecutors will get the final word in the casey anthony murder trial in florida. then the jury will begin deliberating on what role anthony played in the death of her 2-year-old daughter. well, what a weekend weather-wise. those temperatures scorching around the bay area. looks like things will start to

cool down. but what a start to the day today. beautiful 4th of july clear out over the bay. the waters are calm right now. but we are going to notice some changes as we head throughout the day today the temperatures going to start to cool down a little bit. still clear and mild out there right now. many of the numbers well into the 60s and even low 70s some of the interior valleys. 60s for the most part out toward the bay and coastline mostly clear. that could change a bit as we head in toward the afternoon. sunny, still hot in many spots inland. maybe not triple digits. close enough at 99. 80s and 90s inside the bay. bit of a sea breeze. coastline mainly into the 60s patchy fog late in the day. numbers outside right now 70 in concord. 79 vallejo and 61 san rafael. if you plan on traveling you'll find some hot weather in the interior, 105 in fresno today. 100 sacramento. still skiing in lake tahoe, but a high there of 85. still high pressure finally showing some signs of weakening now and that's going to allow

for more of a sea breeze to kick in. more heat around the bay area. hot in spots except right out toward the coastline that's where we'll keep you a bit on the cool side. even there we should see plenty of sunshine to start the day and temperatures running up into the 60s near 70 in daly city. get inside the bay you're going to see a whole lot of heat. 80s even 90s in towards san jose and morgan hill. brentwood about 99. 97 antioch and 95 in dublin. this comes on top of a few days in the triple digits. not a lot of heat relief just yet but that will come in toward the next several days. temperatures in the 80s and 90s in the north bay. temperatures toward the coastline as we look out the future here i think we warm up slightly for tomorrow but then we really watch temperatures begin to take a tumble as we'll see an increase in low clouds and fog continuing on thursday and friday and next weekend those temperatures running well below the average. right now looks like a fantastic 4th of july action

frank. we'll take it, lawrence, thank you, sir. 5:17 now. live look at 101 in san jose. it is smooth sailing on the roads this 4th of july holiday. a reminder public transit is running on a sunday schedule as well. mighty good right now. at least six people are missing after a fishing boat capsizes and sank off mexico's baja california, sea port. the boat carrying 24 people including americans. all the americans were rescued. the mexican navy says one person confirmed dead at this hour but the coast guard could not confirm that. the boat hit rough waters and sank immediately. the coast guard is assisting in that search off of baja. still no word on what caused an oil pipeline to leak under the yellowstone river in montana. the leaking pipeline spewed about 42,000 gallons of crude into montana's famous water

way. the company says the damage is limited but montana's governor says it's silly to make such a claim so early in the investigation. the environmental protection agency says only a small fraction of the spilled oil is likely to be recovered. quite a mess in montana. families of two uc berkeley graduates still being held in iran are taking part in a hunger strike. shane and josh have been held on spying charges for nearly two years now. sara shourd, their companion who was arrested with them was released last fall. they went on a hunger strike for being cut off from receiving letters from their family. they launched their own hunger strike to show solidarity with the two men still stuck in iran. and the royal couple visiting prince edward's island today as part of their new trip abroad. as the newlyweds nine day canadian tour about halfway

your home and auto policies and save. don't worry, tiny people. flo is a gentle giant. bundle home and auto at progressive.com. girl fell from a 10th floor an incredible story out of china. a 2-year-old girl fell from the tenth floor balcony, way up there, and she survived. she was caught by a woman standing below. it happened saturday. the woman says she saw the child dangling from a balcony. when she fell that woman there sprinted into action. the impact breaking the woman's arms. the child suffered some internal injuries but both should be okay. rescuer says all she could think of was her own child and says she would not hesitate to help. lucky little girl. bosses at america's biggest companies are seeing impressive pay raises. that's what a survey for the new york times found out. the top execs at 200 major american companies made 23%

more than they did back in 2009. their medium pay up $10.8 million meanwhile the average american's worker pay rose one- half of 1% last year. not enough to keep up with inflation. sale is possibly soon for the online video site of hulu. the company will talk with more potential buyers this week. hulu has already been in discussions with google, microsoft and yahoo. the site offers access to prime time tv shows and currently owned by parent companies of three broadcast networks and a private equity firm. hulu is projected to make $500 billion this year. quite a tennis match yesterday. a syrian tennis player is the new wimbledon singles champ and you the world's top ranked player. 24-year-old yolk vetch defeated spain's raphael nadal yesterday. he's 48-1 this year with eight titles including two major

championships. but this was the first time he was able to beat nadal in a grand slam match. >> it's really hard to describe this with any words except the best day of my life, the most special day of my life. this is my favorite tournament. the tournament i always dreamed of winning. the first tennis tournament that i ever watched in my life i think i'm still sleeping and still in my dream. >> he's not sleeping anymore. his first title in a tournament on grass courts. his first win at wimbledon. exhausted but mighty happy on this 4th of july. san francisco hopes to recreate the world's tough enthusiasm from a year ago by showing the women's games in the civic center plaza starting next saturday. that's when the world cup quarter finals will begin. the semis and finals will be shown on the big screen. soccer fans can also enjoy other games and some gourmet food. check it out.

you, frank. it was about 9:30 last night here at civic center bart station that police received a call of a suspicious man that was wobbling near the tracks maybe under the influence of alcohol or drugs and reportedly carrying a knife. at 9:45 they responded. within about a minute police say he was shot and then taken to the hospital and actually died. now one of the officers who was involved in that shooting sustained injuries. i spoke with the pio for bart a little earlier. he said that one of the officers sustained the minor cuts and bruises but they're not saying how those injuries were sustained. and even bigger question they're not saying why the suspect was shot. police have not confirmed the reason for it or whether the suspect was shot by one officer or by two officers, but investigations are underway. >> preliminary reveals broken glass at the platform location, two knives at the same

location. we have two to three credible witnesses at this time being interviewed as are officers. san francisco p.d. responded almost immediately with bart p.d. they're involved with the investigation as well as bart p.d. and san francisco's d.a.'s office. >> reporter: police found the glass and knives at the scene and also found three casings that are not confirming total number of shots that were fired. police department has taken this on as a homicide investigation and bart is looking into whether or not policies and procedures that should have been followed in fact were followed. as for commuters coming through the city today trains are running with that regular 4th of july schedule. and they will continue to stop at civic center bart station. >> it was shut down for a little while was that right last night and a little bit this morning? >> reporter: it was. last night when they were doing the investigation initially it was stopped and trains were just going through bart but not stopping at the center. this morning that's not the case. there will be stops there. >> very good. kristy siefkan live in san francisco. thanks.

gunfire erupts at several locations in the richmond area and now four people are confirmed dead and several others are in the hospital. they were all shot over just a few hours last night. elizabeth at police headquarters with the latest from authorities. very crazy night in richmond indeed. >> reporter: for sure. a crazy and deadly night. we just confirmed three people dead in four separate shootings. these all happened just within a few hours of each other. the first shooting happened around 8:30 last night at 39th and ohio. now the person in that shooting was critically injured. we're told he is expected to survive. the second shooting happened just a few blocks away at 11:00. this case a 19-year-old man was killed, shot to death in his car while visiting people in the area. that happened at 3200 center avenue. and just 15 minutes later at first and mcdonald avenue a 27- year-old was killed. a second victim in that shooting we're told is expected

to survive. now the fourth shooting happened just outside richmond in unincorporated contra costa county. police confirm with us at 10:40 p.m. on west ruby and second that one person was killed, another person is in critical condition in the hospital. now all these shootings actually happened just within a few miles of each other. police say it is still too early to tell if any of these shootings are related obviously investigating that as a possibility. no word if these are gang related, still no motive or suspects. we talked to the lieutenant earlier this morning and she said the number of homicides has actually gone down in the richmond area in the last few years. this is the worst shootings series they've seen in some time. back to you. >> elizabeth, thank you. ntsb looking into an emergency landing on a peninsula freeway where a plane actually struck a car while trying to labor day. the cessna touched down near

farm hill boulevard last nightful the f.a.a. says the plane's left mainlanding gear actually broke the back window of a car just driving on the freeway. f.a.a. says the pilot issued a may day calling before trying to land. no reports of any injuries on the ground or to the pilot. another crash under investigation this morning contra costa fire says a crop duster helicopter came down hard yesterday in brentwood. the pilot was taken to the medical center with nonlife threatening injuries there. fireworks may have sparked a fire that torched dozens of cars in south san francisco. the fire broke out at a car rental lot near mitchell and harris streets behind the motel 6 near the san francisco airport. the flames damaged as many as 37 cars. they were all on a grassy lot leased by hertz rental car. took about an hour for firefighters to get the fire under control. firefighters initially responded to a call for a grass fire, but by the time they got

in iran. a 300-year-old oak tree in san mateo county could be saved after all they call her granny. the p.u.c. wants to remove the tree nicknamed granny to make way for a pipeline in north fair oaks. now the commission says if a neighborhood organization or nonprofit will take responsibility for the oak and the land around it, it would consider tunneling underneath it even if it is a more expensive option. so granny may be here to stay. 5:39 now. after six weeks of testimony, a high profile murder trial in florida wrapping up. how the final hours will be spent today on this holiday before jurors decide the fate of casey anthony. plus new cigarette label warnings may already be doing their job. what happened on the day they were unveiled when we come back.

daughter. as karen brown tells us, the defense has been pressing its argument that the death was an accident. >> reporter: casey anthony's defense spent its final hours in front of the jury trying to convince them there is not enough evidence to convict her of murder. >> the reason you don't have that evidence that they're desperately trying to find is because it's an unprovable case. >> reporter: in their closing arguments they try today discredit the state's charge that the 25-year-old suffocated her 2-year-old daughter, caylee, with chloroform and duct tape by meticulously attacking the forensic evidence. then they pointed the finger at anthony's father saying he covered up an accidental drowning. they were not allowed to bring up allegations that he molested his daughter as an explanation of her bizarre behavior because the judge ruled they'd failed to prove it. >> i don't think anybody here can justify her actions, but they do not constitute murder. >> reporter: many of the seven women and five men on the jury

during reenlistment ceremonies. one speech in and hear he told troops they have achieved great progress but that much work remains. it is now known what caused one of the biggest wild fires in new mexico's history. fire officials say a tree falling onto a power line sparked the fire that erupted on june 26 in los alamos. so far the fire spread to 189 square miles. it is only 19% contained. authorities have now allowed about 12,000 residents to return to their homes. mayor of a southern philippine city is literally fighting for the poor in her town. she claimed the sheriff ignored her request to delay the demolition of homes so she punched him several times and it was caught on tape. the demolition would forcibly remove 217 families from their homes. the sheriff was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. tough times. 5:48 now. new questions about cell phones and cancer and their

this week. hulu h the online video site hulu may soon be sold. the company will talk with more potential buyers this week. already been in discussions with google, microsoft and yahoo. the site offers access to prime time tv shows and currently owned by the parent companies of three broadcast networks and a private equity firm. hulu is projected to make half a billion dollars this year alone. the company behind farmville game on facebook is going public. san francisco start up zynga hopes to raise as much as $1 billion in an ipo. the company is joining several other high value internet companies that recently filed those ipos including linked in, pandora and groupon. new cigarette warnings are apparently working and they're not even in use just yet. and cell phone users we can all breathe a bit easier now. terrell brown has this morning's medical update. >> reporter: new research is raising doubts about whether cell phones can cause cancer. the review of previously
